Concrete Calculator

Calculate geometric concrete volume and an order allowance for slabs, footings, cylindrical posts and direct volume entries.

Quick estimate

Calculate concrete volume

Enter the dimensions of concrete actually placed. Structural thickness, footing size and reinforcement must come from your project design.

Quick answer#

Calculate geometric concrete volume and an order allowance for slabs, footings, cylindrical posts and direct volume entries. The result updates as you edit inputs. Choose a contextual example to populate visible fields, then replace the example with your actual measurements or professional design values.

Formula and calculation method#

Rectangular slab and footing volume = length × width × depth. Round column volume = π × (diameter / 2)² × height × count. Order volume = geometric volume × (1 + entered allowance). Bag count = ceil(order volume ÷ the entered yield per bag).

US customary and metric inputs use one internal SI calculation path. Each displayed quantity is converted after the calculation. Presets only fill editable inputs; no undocumented material, performance or cost adjustment is made.

Worked example#

A 20 ft × 20 ft × 4 in slab contains about 4.94 yd³ of geometric volume. A 5% order allowance produces about 5.19 yd³; confirm the slab shape and delivery minimum.

Open the calculator above, select the matching example and review every dimension or rate before using the result. The PDF report includes your entered values and documented limits.

Selecting inputs and project assumptions#

The input units change together when you switch measurement systems. A project preset is a starting point, not an instruction to buy a product or select a construction assembly. Local materials, engineering plans and supplier quotations have priority over illustrative defaults.

Cost inputs, if available, use only the numbers you provide. The currency selector changes the label and does not fetch exchange rates or regional prices. The calculation report identifies its formula, input assumptions and sources.

Assumptions and limitations#

A geometric estimate does not determine structural sizing, concrete mix design, placement losses or supplier short-load charges. The default 0.6 ft³ yield is an editable bag illustration; read the actual product label. Bag and ready-mix outputs are alternative ordering approaches.

Use this result for preliminary planning. Measure the actual project, obtain the required design or specification, confirm available product sizes and tolerances, and verify purchases with the supplier or contractor. A calculation cannot inspect site conditions or guarantee a finished quantity.

Sources and methodology#

Sources support the stated method and context. Any editable preset or illustrated cost is an Efficienco example, not a quotation, standard-prescribed value or endorsement by the linked organization.

Frequently asked questions

How many cubic yards do I need for a slab?Multiply slab length, width and thickness in consistent units, divide cubic feet by 27, then apply an explicit project allowance.
Can I calculate round columns?Yes. Select Round columns, enter actual diameter, height and count.
Does the calculator design my footing? No. It calculates volume from the dimensions you enter; the engineering design belongs to the project professional.
Is the bag count based on 80 lb bags?No weight is assumed. It divides volume by an editable cubic-foot yield per bag; enter the yield printed on the exact product.
Can I enter a volume I already measured?Yes. Choose Known volume, then add an order allowance if appropriate.
Are ready mix and bags added together? No. They are alternative ways to purchase the same estimated volume.
Does the price include delivery?Only if you enter delivery/fixed costs and any applicable tax; no current supplier quote is fetched.
